We were married on the beach in Emerald Isle, NC and our reception was at a family house that Maggie's grandfather built for his family in the 80s.  We got engaged at Christmas, in 2009 and were married 7 months later.  We had so much help from our families planning for the wedding and hope we can help you find inspiration for your special day.

HOW WE DID IT!
Lighting - The whole theme of our reception was rustic @ the beach and lighting was key for our whole "feel".  We got most of our inspiration from our favorite blog YHL because they had a backyard wedding too.  We actually used their exact lighting from Target.  We found it on sale for $10 a strand and picked up roughly 20 strands.  It was a good thing we picked up so much because we had alot of yard to light and the bulbs were very easily broken.

CHAMPAGNE!

Beverages - The house has one large screened porch and two uncovered side porches.  Our goal was to get people to move all throughout the yard and the three porches.  To do this we decided to utilize both side porches by putting the two different types of drink locations on either side of the screened porch, and it really did help!  The Tiki Bar housed all of the Beer for the wedding.  Since Grayson is such a fan of microbrew beer (and he works for a local beer company) we decided to do all kegged beer from his company and added our two favorite beers from Highland Brewing Company.  While this proved to be a hassle for the transportation of beer and keeping it cold, it was a hit for the wedding!  We had Maggie's cousin Katy create some nice chalkboards of the beer list and added some lighting to the bar and viola....our awesome Tiki Bar.  The N/A drinks we served were lemonade, limeade, and Grayson's Mom's Sweet Tea.  Maggie's Aunt Lizzie had large Mason Jar drink dispensers from her wedding in Asheville that were able to use to make the table complete!  The champagne was purchased through Maggie's Sister-In-Law at a discount because she works as a GM at a local Charlotte restaurant.

OUR MENU!
Food - As we already mentioned our families are the only reason this wedding was able to happen, and food was no exception to this.  Maggie's brother Joe and his wife Katy both work in the restaurant business and Joe is an exective chef.  He was not only our chef, cooking the food, but we used his discount to order the food and brought it down to the beach with us.  We had an amazing menu of bbq and chicken and were able to get local potatoes and corn from Grayson's Uncle Randy who is a Farmer in NC.  You'll notice the chalkboard menu for both the food and beer (on the tiki bar) that Maggie's cousin Katy Thomas did.  We bought the chalkboards for cheap online and she used chalkboard pens to write out the descriptions.  These helped add to our rustic-beach feel.

ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS -Maggie's Brother-in-law took photos of us several weeks before we left for the wedding.  His photos were a huge it not only on this clothes line but we also put them on a digital frame on the gift table.  He is starting his new business, check him out!

GIFT TABLE - A friend of the family made our card box.  She used seashells she collected on the beach and spay painted it.  Then she added colored sea glass and it looked perfect.  We now use it to hold all of our "wedding memories."  Our gift to our guests were custom Koozies!  They were a huge hit not only at the wedding but after because it was cheaper to order 250 than 100!
SIGNS - Maggie's Brother-in-law, Chad, is not only a great photographer but he also made our signage for the wedding.  We had traditional "campagn
